Rethinking the One-World Government — The Future of Global Politics

“In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush all those kingdoms and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever. This is the meaning of the vision of the rock cut out of a mountain, but not by human hands. And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the Holy City, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God. — Daniel 2:44-45a, Revelations 21:10, NIV.

The world as we know it is changing. Business ownership is shifting with the advent of the internet. Jobs are being replaced with advanced robotics. Artificial Intelligence is improving to the point where it can surpass the functions of the human brain. And the market is no longer the centralized economy as we know it.

Sure. Over the past decade, we see the concept of “sovereignty” fades with the advent of globalism then rise again with the unexpected push of global nationalism [2]. But as we take a closer look and examine the trends that span across the globe, the rise of nationalism does not seem to make much sense, does it?

The global political trend is moving away from the familiar right and is inching towards the far left [3]. National issues are no longer issues that can be solved within one’s own borders. Like it or not, there is an entity[4] bigger than nations and continents. This is the entity that we all bow down to and is slowly urging us to embrace it.

At this, I’d like to clarify that I am not concluding that this entity is the Kingdom of God or the One-World Government that many conspiracy theorists would like to suggest. Jumping to such conclusions will only bring about a false understanding of the perceived future that is grounded on shifting sand. Rather, I’d urge people to not brush aside the idea of global citizenry and the prospect of a global currency, and embrace it as a potential work of God. After all, as peaceful as the angel of light[5] may appear, can he go all out to promote the welfare of the world?

When we pray for God’s kingdom to come [6], we must be on our guard to discern if this imminent global unity is the will of the Author of History or a sign that points to the impending apocalyptic future.

Of course, regardless whether it is the work of the Maker or the plans of the Kingdom of the air[7], it is ultimately a piece of history that God had written [8]. And at the thought of this, the only appropriate response we should have as Christians is to sing as the Psalmist had written:

This is the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it. — Psalms 118:24, ESV.
