The Lord is with me when I fall — The Story of Joseph

One day he went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the household servants was inside. She caught him by his cloak and said, “Come to bed with me!” But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house. — Genesis 39:11-12, NIV

Joseph:

She was pretty.
She was alluring.
She was all that I could ever ask for.

She was my master’s wife.

I know, I know. It’d be wrong to be with her. But who is to know if she will be the only woman I will ever know in my lifetime? I was sold to Egypt and into this household. Will I ever earn enough to gain true freedom? I doubt it.

Whatever. It’s my conscience against the lust of the flesh.

I want it… But I know that I shouldn’t give in to the wants of my body. Urgh.

Every day, I dragged myself to and fro work till the time I turn in for the night. The reality of the matter sunk in. I’m in need.

Lord, take away the thorn in my flesh!

Then one day. That fateful day. The house was empty.

She stood there leaning against the door. The sun shone in. Her shadow on my face.

She stared into my eyes.

Time stood still.

She inched toward me. Her shadow brushing against my skin.

She sat down beside me. She laid on my chest.

“Joseph,” She whispered as she rubbed her arms against my thigh. Her fingers fingered across my lower body as she loosened my cloak and kissed my chest. “Lie with me.”

My body froze.

She brushed her hands across my hand and loosened my belt.

The fabric around me draped down with gravity.

I sat there before her, naked.

“Come,” she pushed my body against the armrest and climbed on top of me. “Come to bed with me.”

Every ligament of my body weakened as the weight of her body rested on mine.

It was, all I have ever dreamt of.

NO!

“Joseph, what are you doing!” My conscience screamed into my heart as I stare at her naked body rubbing up and down against mine.

I mustered every bit of strength that I have left and locked every joint within me.

I threw her to the ground and ran out of the house as fast as I could.

I guess, that was the most embarrassing thing I have ever done in my life… And the most thrilling.

I found the largest piece of cloth outside near the threshing floor and wrapped myself before sprinting back to my room.

To my horror, all the other servants who were working under my charge was guarding the door. My door!

She was there with them…

“That Hebrew slave you brought us came to me to make sport of me. But as soon as I screamed for help, he left his cloak beside me and ran out of the house.”

My memory shut down from that point on. I can’t remember a thing.

All that I knew was being ushered in chains.

Like sheep being led to the slaughter, there was… No fear.

Time passed quickly. I saw no sun and no moon.

But the peace that surpasses all understanding kept me at ease.

I no longer thought of her.

I no longer thought of Pontiphar.

I no longer thought of life.

No biggie. I merely lost all that I had… Again.

Whatever.

I lost life. But I gained life eternal.

I lost physical pleasure. But I gained peace.

I was kept right before the lord. My conscience is clear.

And the Lord is with me.
